Trump Signals Likely 90-Day Extension for TikTok to Avoid Ban

Trump stated that while no final decision had been made, he was considering a 90-day extension of the Sunday deadline for TikTok’s China-based parent company to sell to a non-Chinese buyer or face a U.S. ban.

“That’s certainly an option we’re looking at. The 90-day extension is likely to happen because it’s appropriate. It’s a very significant issue, and we need to examine it carefully,” Trump said during a phone interview.

“If I decide to move forward, I’ll likely announce it on Monday,” he added.

The bipartisan law passed last year explicitly allows for a 90-day extension under certain conditions, but even with an extension on Monday, the app could still go dark for at least a day due to the current Sunday compliance deadline.

TikTok’s fate has been a major focus during the final days of the Biden administration, leaving millions of U.S. users eagerly awaiting a resolution.
